First Things

We sit amid a pile of laundry and the exploded suitcase detritus from our family of five’s first out of town trip together. But before we tackle that mess, I’m facilitating a letter to President Obama.

Today’s headlines caught Big Sis’s attention. War? Do we still have war?Why would anybody fight a war?

The result of that conversation was a beautifully written letter to the president, complete with impressively tidy writing (she’s ready for first grade!), her own photograph, and  a little explanatory note from me. Then we watched this video explaining what happens to a letter sent to the White House (one of the 65,000 letters that arrive each day).

In one fell swoop we’ve practiced civics, writing, and kicked the day off with an activity… Now for the piles!
